In our last Omnibus for 2024, The Wine Conversation team look back on the year and select their favourite interviews and name their best wine trips and bottles. As it is the festive season, Sarah has decreed there will be no bad news in this episode, so no Weather Watch or farewells have been recorded. A great many fabulous wines have been drunk (tasted) this year by the team and John Stimpfig and Sarah Kemp name their top five wines of the year while Elin McCoy reveals her best Champagnes.
We covered quite a few miles in aid of vinous research. Favourite moments include Elin basking in her swimsuit on a speedboat on a lake in Chile with Eduardo Chadwick, tasting his experimental sparkling wine, Sarah dining in Château L’Evangile’s vineyards, drinking the 1961 vintage in magnum on our Connoisseur Week with Saskia de Rothschild, Jane Anson and the Connoisseur Week guests, while slightly more sportingly, John fondly recalls his 200km bike ride for charity across Burgundy, where a bottle of Lafon’s Meursault made up for his sore knees.
Also, in this special festive edition of Omnibus, Brian St. Pierre reveals The Wine Conversation’s books of the year. (Spoiler alert: you will need to clear your bookshelves; it has been a bumper year.)
