▴ Beaulieu Vineyard, Georges de Latour Private Reserve 2021

Beaulieu Vineyard, Georges de Latour Private Reserve 2021, Rutherford, Napa Valley, USA

This historic flagship estate wine, made by BV’s head winemaker Trevor Durling, is always worthy of attention. Deep purple to the rim and vibrantly opaque. Impressively aromatic on the nose with intense notes of cream, chocolate, blueberry and blackcurrant. The palate is equally well endowed and brims with glossy cassis, cherry and bramble fruit followed by liquorice and creamy vanilla from the oak ageing. Well-structured and rich, this has ripe enveloping tannins that frame and balance the fine acidity and substantial finish. Not quite ready for broaching at this premature stage IMHO, this exceptional wine needs more time to unfurl and will certainly reward significant cellaring. 14.7%. 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot.
