Occasionally, just occasionally, we stop talking about wine. It seems rude not to share some of the other random stuff we come across, as we know that Wine Conversationalist listeners and readers are a pretty discerning bunch.

A new cookbook which will be a classic

It’s rare to find a new cookbook where you find yourself cooking more than a few recipes before heading back to tried and tested favourites. Recipes from Le Rouzet: An English Cook in France,” by Cathy Gayner, is not a book that will be put back on your shelf.

Le Rouzet: An English Cook in France

Its reputation is growing by word of mouth, and it is easy to see why. Cathy Gayner lives in Southwest France, where she caters for a never-ending stream of friends. The recipes are simple, with ingredients you can easily buy, but every one is full of flavour (think Diana Henry and Delia’s “Summer Collection” combined). Salads and tarts feature heavily, fresh herbs abound in all the recipes and there isn’t one I haven’t tried which hasn’t become an instant favourite. The fact that the book is sold in aid of Age Unlimited, a very worthy charity, is a delightful bonus: You can eat very well and do good. £16.99 Amazon
